Back in 2016 we had an opportunity to write some liturgical songs for congregations in New Orleans. Mercy Everywhere is a Kyrie written with the seasonal flooding experienced by many along the gulf coast in mind, especially poorer communities which are often in the lowlands. With the landfall of Hurricane Laura this morning join us in a moment of prayer for all those who are suffering. Christ, have mercy.

Before leaving for seminary we had the opportunity to record a few of these songs at Smallworld Studio with engineer Felton Langlois. This recording has Aimée on bass and vocals, Rob Ticherich on drums, Tim Rutkowsky on trumpet, Cedric Wiley on saxophone, and I’m playing guitar and singing. You can stream and download this tune on our Bandcamp page, or download this MP3 for free as a subscriber to our email newsletter (click to download). This kyrie is part of our long delayed, but still coming out compilation of liturgical tunes.

They say the Spirit hovered over the deep, a long, long time ago
Now how many here are wet with fear, wading through that surge of sorrow
Lord, have mercy everywhere

Everywhere, Lord, have mercy
Everywhere, Christ, have mercy
Everywhere, Lord, have mercy everywhere

They say the high ground isn’t so far from here, Lord, please show the way
The siren’s ringing out with a moan and a shout, we need to hear from you today
Lord, have mercy everywhere

Everywhere, Lord, have mercy
Everywhere, Christ, have mercy
Everywhere, Lord, have mercy everywhere
